Veuve Clicquot takes inspiration from a sardine can
by Megan Meagher
Only the most premium brand could pull off such a juxtaposition. Veuve Clicquot pays tribute to its past with unique packaging for its Brut Yellow Label. The brand designed the case after a sardine can to reference the history of the brand.
Barbe Nicole Ponsardin, the widow of Francois Clicquot, took over the brand and led the company to its rise in popularity. In a tongue-in-cheek play on the Ponsardin name, the family's coat-of-arms featured a leaping sardine over a bridge ("pont" in French). As such, the new packaging is unexpected and beautiful, but more importantly pays homage to the Widow Clicquot and her family.
