Introducing the 2016 Olympic Typeface

by Megan Meagher

The London Olympics haven't even started and already we have a peek at the design for the Rio games in 2016. 5448 bespoke characters were created to evoke the movements of athletes in action and inspired by the joyfulness of the Brazilian people. Certain characters were even derived directly from landmarks in Rio. For example, the Copacabana pavement is present in the letters ‘N’ and ‘M’ and the letter ‘R’ resembles the Rock of Gávea.
