Facebook unveils Graph Search- for users or advertisers?

by Damien Moore Evans

Facebook has released a new, more complete for users way to search.  Graph Search, live in a limited capacity as of this morning, will allow users to search by dozens of new categories including city, employer, school, friendship, post content, and more.

The search algorithm relies heavily on your network of friends, with result relevancy sorted first by shared connections.  Facebook believes the new search functions will allow users to unearth similarities between friends and increase interaction. However,  critics counter that the function is being released in part to supply advertisers with more in-depth data and quell charges that the site is a wasteland for marketers.  The service can be requested by users on their Facebook homepage and will continue to roll out in the coming months.
