While Mayor Bloomberg and other government officials have fought to include calories counters on food products and restaurant fare, early reports have shown that the displays have not dissuaded hungry consumers. Some blame America's consumption culture, however researchers at UNC believe that the average eater doesn't entirely understand calorie counting and needs a real world solution to track their daily intake.

A new iOS app called Moments Outside the Box (MOB) makes it easy to plan those spontaneous moments with friends and strangers alike.  The app connects its users with those around them and limits the painstaking work of an invitation list.  MOB Party Planners can simply post their activity live (drum circle, late night dance party, picnic, a good long cry, etc) live while Party Goers are free to peruse all nearby events.  The app has not had much success planting MOBs all over NYC and San Francisco (its two target audiences) but early VC talks you could see the app grow considerably in upcoming months.

Artist Bobby Neal Adams takes on the journey of aging in his newest series of photos, AgeMaps. He splices and dices photos of the same person from their youth and adulthood to create a dual portrait.  The effect is equal parts horrifying and heartwarming.

This isn’t the artist’s first foray into the concept of a dual portrait- he has equally curious works exploring facial similarities between family and couples.

A giant, high-flying, tubular tourist attraction over Grand Central Station has been proposed in the bid for the massive rezoning of Midtown East.  Intended to reinvigorate the area that was once the crown jewel of the New York City, architecture firm Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill has suggested a large circular tube of glass that would track up and down two (new) skyscrapers.
